our story

How we met

We met some 10 years ago, during a Lunar New Year celebration at Mike’s place. Mike’s elder sister, Joycez was my colleague then. Some other colleagues and I went to Joycez’s place for a round or two of mahjong game.

After which, someone suggested to continue the fun at ‘Sparks’ (a rather popular night spot back then).

As Sparks had strict minimum age requirement for patron entries (Min. 23 years old for male, and 18 years old for female), we thought of a plan to ’smuggle’ Mike in, who was only 17 years old then.

The plan was for me to pretend to be his girlfriend and swiftly blend in the group to escape checks. The plan was a success!!!

So that was how we really met the first time, with no further progress…

Getting to Know Each Other

Some many years later, one of the days, in one of the months of 2004, I was re-introduced to Mike once again by Joycez (Yes, again). Mike who has been a Financial Services Consultant becomes my agent for all my financial and insurance needs.

Getting to Know Each Other Even Better

One year later, one of the days, in June (we think), Mike contacted me to inform me of Joycez’s hospitalization, and invited me to visit her.

So we met up at the interchange near our place (we live in the same region)  to take a bus to National University Hospital.

It was a long bus ride, and it started to rain. Out of a sudden, Mike, whom I placed my confidence in for the good sense of direction, told me we got on the wrong bus!!!!!! So we hurried down the bus, and hoped to catch the right bus, or a taxi.

By then, it was raining cats and dogs. That gave Mike a perfect opportunity to display his gentlemanly gesture of shielding me from the rain blown in by the strong wind.

Ok, I was indeed impressed.

We started to know each other better with the regular visits to the hospital, and other programmes that were planned after the visits.

Then…

… the missing game began,          … and then we fought, and
just as it would with any               and made up…
new relationship..                         (just playing around)

… then we holiday away                … then we say thank you to each other

… then we spent quiet                 … then we spent festivals together
time together

… then we encouraged each         … then we celebrate special
other                                             occasions together

and then…

… he proposed on my birthday!      … and we are man & wife

Some details on the proposal

On 17th October 2006, which was my birthday…

Mike surprised me (with my eyes blindfolded) with a ring, YES, he proposed!!!! Well, nope, he didn’t get down on his knees, but the proposal was kind of fun and memorable. Perhaps due to nervousness, he voice changed to a Donald Duck tone, when he said ‘Will you marry me?’…

What happens next?

Since the proposal, we were in frenzy of mad rush to prepare for the wedding! Fortunately, we have been enjoying the process, and are both excited and look forward to the wedding.

Mike and I have always prefer to have a simple wedding. We may not have a grand wedding setting, but we have a humble wedding style packed with our sincerity.
